Description

Prerequisite: FAS 0210
This course is designed to develop students’ understanding of the critical
thinking process, with a view to improving their own reasoning and
analysis skills. In the first part of the course, students will be introduced to
the principles of argumentation, analysis, and reasoning. They will learn
how to examine and analyze evidence and evaluate the quality of different
sources of information. Students will engage with a variety of academic
and mass media sources and will be asked to respond critically respond
in writing and class discussion to the issues raised in class readings. In
the second part, students will work in small groups on a team-selected
topic and will employ the concepts of critical thinking and analysis skills as
they write a collaborative research paper using APA style. Throughout this
process, students will be expected to evaluate their own work, as well as
the work of their peers.
