Description
The search for better living conditions is acknowledged to be the principal driving force behind migration. This course examines how current transnational and intercontinental migratory flows relate to the role of labor in different production systems and to the social value of work across cultures. The social, cultural, economic and political impacts of migration on home and host countries alike are explored. The course assesses the extent to which a given state's immigration policies relate to its wider economic and social policies. Attempts by states and regional blocks to regulate and criminalize international migration are also analyzed.
