I believe both the pictures of Salma Palamo Diaz (wearing the Hijab and a traditional tzotzil mexican skirt) and Domingo López Ángel (Leader of the Council of Indigenous Representatives of the Chiapas Highlands and an early adopter of Islam), show how Islam bends with 'indigenous' practices in Mexico, meaning that the Muslim community in Chiapas try to mix their indigenous traditions and rituals with the customs required by Islam (For instance wearing the traditional mexican skirt, but keeping the Hijab since it is mandatory for Muslim women). I think that Islam can't be separated from other components of any culture as long as it doesn't require any act that is forbidden by Allah (such as Alcohol or eating pork).
