Shi'ism Reading & Additional Info Original post: Wed 2/14/2018 at 1:56 PM

The main ideas of the section I selected Sunni-Shi “ecumenicism” is that contrarily to western medias portrait of Sunni and Shi current relations, members of the two groups have co-existed for centuries and share numerous fundamental beliefs and practices. Though there is conflict there is also a degree of cooperation and acceptance between the two secular groups. This is not to mislead readers; there is still strife in areas of the Middle East between the two groups, and violence is still an element of that conflict.

The additional piece of information I discovered about my topic that I found interesting was that the majority of the world's estimated 1.5 billion Muslims are Sunnis. Data collection suggest that the Sunnis populations is somewhere between 85% and 90%. I also learned that the name "Sunni" is derived from the phrase "People of the Tradition". The author of the article stated, “The tradition in this case refers to practices based on what the Prophet Muhammad said, did, agreed to or condemned”.
