For me, the fifth picture in the series of 13 and also the photos from the article which depict animal sacrifices from Eid al-Adha demonstrate the validity of the author’s premise. The fifth photo of the series shows Mexican Muslims in prayer, which seems to coincide with traditional values since, as the article points out, Mexico has long been a very pious country so Islam and the requirement of prayer five times a day merges well with that fact. The photos of the Eid al-Adha sacrifice reinforce this as the practice of sacrifice goes back many millennia in Mexico, all the way to the Mayan civilization, as the article also points out. I think this shows that the indigenous traditions of Chiapas and the relatively new and imported ideals of Islam can successfully coexist in this setting without either having to take a backseat.
